Life's a hot dog
A few days ago we read about Cole and his experience fixing dinner  for Edwin and Garvey in Touching Spirit Bear.  As you consider your life and the things that you have no control over that my upset you in some way, how can you apply the principle of "Life's a Hot Dog" to your life and what difference can it make in your attitude?

Veteran's Day
On Tuesday, we were able to go to the Veteran's War Memorial and visit with veterans from Desert Storm, the Korean War, Vietnam War, and World War II.  Write about what you learned that day, and how it made you feel to visit with these men and women.  Why do you think it is important we honor veterans and the people who are currently serving our country?  What can we do to show our appreciation?

The Home Run
There are many times in life when things happen to us that aren't fair.  It may be in sports, friendships, school, brothers and sisters, parents, chores - just about everywhere you turn.  The video we watched yesterday was about good sportsmanship.  Good sportsmanship, or being a team player, can be applied to any time of our lives.  How did this video impact you?  What changes are you willing to make to be a better team player?  Use an example of a time when this could have made a difference.  If you would have done something slightly different, what would the outcome have been?  Or maybe there was a time you did did something in the other person's interest and were selfless.  What was that like?

"Don't Quit"
Below is the link to the "Don't Quit Poem" we watched in class.  Take a minute and reflect on a time something was very difficult for you and you felt like giving up, but didn't.  Now, write about it without being fearful of what others may think.  It's scary to reveal yourself by opening up, but this is when some of the best writing occurs.

"Don't laugh at me"
After watching this video and listening to the words of the song, explain how it made you feel.  What can you do to make sure no one ever feels this way?  http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=260&title=Don_t_Laugh_At_Me

The jobs I do at home are...
Doing chores at home is just one way we can do our part to help those we live with.  Our parents and grandparents sacrifice a lot to help us everyday, in ways we sometimes are not aware of.  Helping around the house is also a way to perform simple acts of kindness, especially if we do them without complaining (difficult to do sometimes!)  What are your responsibilities at home?  If you aren't given any by your parents, name some things you do to help out.

Someone I look up to is.....(because.....)
I have shared with you one of my personal heroes. Lance Armstrong has shown many characteristics that I value and would like to include in my life as a part of me. I know if I could become more like him in the way that he showed perseverance, self-discipline and hard work, I would be a better person. He was faced with what most people would have considered impossible, and he didn't give up. He was told he would probably die from cancer, and he beat it. Then he became the best at what he enjoyed (7 times!). Even if he would have died from cancer, he would have died believing in himself and knowing he did his best. I admire him because he believes in always giving it your all, even when you are faced with the impossible.

What do you think about blogging?
Blogging is new to me. I've read some, but never been a part of responding to blogs. This is a little scary to me, but I think we could have fun. And let's face it....this is your world! This is basically the way the world is headed and we have to keep up with it. So lets learn together. Here's to trying new things and learning together!
